A ride through the villages
south of Cambridge

Abbreviations:- (SO) Straight On,  (SP) Sign Post,  (Rdb) Roundabout,  (T) Tee Junction.

Start from outside Kings College facing Great St. Mary's                                                                                     (miles)
Turn right on Kings Parade                                                                         (0.0)
Continue into Trumpington Street, turn right at double mini rdb onto Fen Causeway. Cross River Cam and shortly take cyclepath on left. Follow path across Lammas Land. At main road cross using cycle crossing. Follow cyclepath beside A603 out of Cambridge.
Continue on path passing the junction for the M11. Approx. 1/3 mile further on, turn right on cyclepath (SP) Barton. The farm (Burwash Manor) on your left has a tea room                                                                                       (3.7)

Continue through Barton, note the path ends just before the village. Continue following the B1046 through Comberton and Toft.                                                                             (7.5)
About a mile beyond Toft take the left fork to Kingston. (8.4) Continue (SO) through Kingston and Great Eversden. At the A603 right and immediately left (SP) Harlton(SO) through to Haslingfield.                                                                     (11.8) At tee, right into Haslingfield. At Church, right into Chapel Hill.                                                                                  (13.1) There are good views from the top over a wide area. Continue past the cement works to Barrington. Take the first left past the school (SP) Foxton. Note: There is a good pub in Barrington if you carry (SO) instead of turning left in 1/3 mile you will find on the left facing the Cricket Pitch. Returning to the route, continue over ungated level crossing. At sharp left bend, carry (SO) to the railway, there is a footpath over the railway at this point. Beyond the railway, cross the A10 and continue into Foxton.                                                     (15.9)  At Tee in centre on village, left to Fowlmere. Continue to cross roads where (SO) to Thriplow, past the old forge on your left. Thriplow is famous for its Spring show of daffodils.      (18.5) 
Continue through the village bearing left past the school. Continue to the B1368 where right to Newton. At Newton turn right at the Kings Head to Whittlesford. (20.5) Continue over M11 and keep (SO) at first junction then shortly turning left at the grassy triangle. (a detour for the photogaphers, turn right at the first junction after the M11, 1st left (0.5 mile) and at the Tee junction is the Whittlesford Guildhall, a very old timbered building, private no access, turn left to the grassy triangle)                                                                        (+1.5)
Continue towards Cambridge to Great Shelford. After crossing two small rivers and passing the Church. (SO) in Great Shelford, there is a tea shop in the road to your right.                  (24.3) On reaching the A1301 bear left and shortly turn right onto Granhams Road. At A1307 turn left for Cambridge. (SO) into Cambridge passing Addenbrookes Hospital on your left (26.3)  At the next junction use the middle lane as indicated by the red strip on the road. Continue on Hills Road, pass over the railway and (SO) past the War Memorial.
Left into Lensfield Road just after the Roman Catholic Church which has a tall spire and clock.
At mini
